Mercedes-Benz G-Class Gets Engine Upgrades

One look at the 2015 Mercedes-Benz G-Class, and it's immediately clear that this isn't your typical, run-of-the-mill luxury SUV. With its big blocky body and massive performance engines, it's a vehicle that offers both incredible power and lavish furnishings. Thanks to some improvements for the new model year, however, the latest G-Class models are stronger than they've ever been.

Every trim in the model line has received upgrades to horsepower and torque, with the most drastic improvement found under the hood of the 2015 Mercedes-Benz G550. That particular trim features a new 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine capable of producing an impressive 416 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. It's a similar engine to what currently appears in the Mercedes-AMG® GT and Mercedes-Benz C63, giving the G550 more power than it has ever had.

As far as the other drivetrain updates go, the G350d will see a boost in horsepower to 245 hp, while the G63 will jump 27 hp to 563 hp overall. Also, for the first time here in the States, Mercedes-Benz will make available the G65 trim, which boasts the best numbers of the batch: 621 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque.

All of these improve the performance of what already was a performance-driven luxury automobile. As your Mercedes-Benz dealership, we love the changes and are thrilled about the prospect of these unique G-Class SUVs becoming even more special than they already were. They've been around for 36 years, and thanks to modern advancements, this will be the best version of the vehicle yet.
