Spark – Hoehn Motors’ Impact on Automotive Students
A few years ago, we started hosting students from the Boys and Girls Club of Oceanside, aiming to introduce them to the world of work and future opportunities. This initiative has since grown into something even more impactful. We’ve now expanded our focus to include automotive shop class students from local high schools and community colleges like Mira Costa College and Palomar College.
Our goal? To SPARK imagination and engagement, guiding students as they explore potential career paths in the automotive industry. By connecting education with real-world applications, Hoehn Motors strives to educate and empower the next generation as they pursue their passions and career goals. The Hoehn SPARK program, introduced by Bill Hoehn, Hoehn Motors President, and Roy Inzunza, Corporate Chaplain, is designed to help local students explore vocational opportunities and prepare them for a changing workforce.
SPARK and Audi Carlsbad
This month, Audi Carlsbad partnered with Vista High School’s shop class to welcome students for a campus tour, giving them an inside look at the operations of a car dealership from the perspective of various departments and team members.
The students were first greeted by Adrienne and Susanah Hoehn, who shared our company’s history and insights into the corporate side of the business. After the introduction, the students embarked on a tour of our 30,000-square-foot dealership. They met with Audi Carlsbad General Manager Eric Tracy, who provided an overview of management and sales operations. The tour continued with Service Manager Nick Smith and Shop Foreman Marco Lopez, who showcased the dynamic environment of the shop floor. This hands-on experience was invaluable, as it allowed the students to see the practical application of the skills they learned in their classroom, particularly engine rebuilding.
Student Feedback and Future Plans
Following the tour, the students enjoyed lunch from Jersey Mike’s, and we took the opportunity to gather their feedback. Here’s what they had to say:
- “We felt so welcomed and cared for.”
- “Thank you for the in-depth experience.”
- “I have a better sense of how it all works together.”
- “You really care about the customers.”
The enthusiasm and curiosity of the students were truly inspiring. Their experience with significant automotive projects, such as rebuilding or replacing engines, was evident. It was gratifying to see their eyes light up with excitement and newfound inspiration.
Looking ahead, we are excited to continue our efforts with the Hoehn SPARK program. This fall, we plan to host another campus tour for students from Mira Costa College and Vista High School. By continuously fostering these connections between education and real-world applications, we aim to keep sparking the imagination and career ambitions of local students.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to support the next generation in their journey toward a fulfilling career in the automotive industry.
